Tarzan Syndrome: Part 2 — Social Rehab That Works

In our first Tarzan Syndrome episode, we talked about why some cats struggle so profoundly with other cats. Missed socialization windows. Poor early experiences. A natural species that didn’t evolve for group living.

But the biggest question we heard afterward was simple—and urgent:“Okay… now what?”

That’s what Part 2 is all about.

This Is Rehab, Not Correction

Cats with poor social skills aren’t being defiant or dominant. They’re operating with missing information. Social rehabilitation isn’t about punishment or “letting them work it out.” It’s about teaching safety and emotional regulation where those lessons never fully formed.

What Social Rehab Actually Looks Like

In this episode, we break down a step-by-step framework that works in real homes:

  • Environmental resets that lower stress before interactions ever happen

  • Scent-based introductions that allow learning without pressure

  • Visual exposure done right (and why distance is not failure)

  • Parallel activities that teach calm coexistence

  • Supervised shared space—only when the cats are ready

We also share real success stories—from door-charging and screaming to peaceful coexisting, and even shared sunny windowsills.

Progress Over Perfection

The goal of social rehab isn’t cuddling cats or viral videos. The goal is safety, predictability, and peace. Sometimes success is two cats passing each other without incident. And that matters.

If you’re navigating a divided household, this episode will help you slow down, reframe expectations, and build a plan that respects the cats in front of you—not the fantasy of how you wish it looked.
